India's intelligence and security agency including the Research & Analysis Wing (external intelligence) and the Intelligence Bureau will hold talks with Pakistan's ISI, although it is a military agency.

This is for the first time that such a meeting will be held.Foreign Secretaries of both sides are expected to meet here next month and possibly launch the initiative.

The crucial test of this mechanism will be one of credibility. Both sides have continuously disputed claims made by their respective intelligence agencies. Sources stressed that the idea behind the mechanism is to verify and then act on information.

So, for the first time, there will be intelligence-sharing between agencies of India and Pakistan. New Delhi will now be able to pass on all information about the infrastructure of terrorism that exists across the border and Line of Control to agencies responsible for it.
