Vande Matram Controversy Deepens

By Network on September 02,2006

After the BJP-ruled states made compulsory the singing of the National Song on September 7 to mark the centenary of its adoption, there seems to be a new twist in the story everyday. In a new development, the supreme body of Sunnis, Darul Uloom of Deoband has issued a fatwa (religious edict) against BJP Vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi for his advocacy of the National Song which they say goes against the tenets of Islam.

Although some people feel that all this discussion over the National song is a waste of space as the country is facing flood fury in Rajasthan, Orissa, suicidal cases of Andhra Pradesh and drought in the north eastern region but it’s clear that political parties and maulvi’s are now becoming flag bearers of our patriotism.

Meanwhile Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has also asked Muslims to keep their children away from schools on September 7, 2006 to avoid any controversy with regard to singing of Vande Matram in educational institutions on the day.
