Completely isolated within his own party after moving a privilege motion against the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh's political future hangs in balance as Congress disciplinary action committee is likely to decide his fate in a couple of days.
The Justice Pathak inquiry report while indicting Natwar Singh and his son Jagat has exonerated the Congress party in the oil for food scam.
One thing is getting clear by the day that time is running out for the former external affairs minister as he increases his daily meetings with members of Samajwadi Party and other opposition parties.
Natwar Singh's association with the Congress party and the Gandhi family dates back to more than five decades. Maybe that's the reason why Natwar Singh has been upset and disappointed with the fact that no one either from the party or from the Gandhi family came out in his support.
But in the tough game of Indian politics, nothing can ever be ruled out. Natwar Singh's imminent ouster from the Congress party could well turn out to be one such thing.
Meanwhile the Government has decided to hand over findings of Justice R S Pathak's probe in the Iraqi Oil-for-Food scam, to three investigative agencies. The inquiry committee was set up November 11 last year to examine the veracity of a probe by an UN-appointed panel that alleged that some individuals, political parties and companies - including those from India - were beneficiaries of the Iraqi oil-for-food programme when Saddam Hussein was in power.
