In a surprise turn to the latest US Mole controversy, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has written a letter to the former External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh stating that the former minister's letter did not contain any name of the alleged US 'mole' in the Prime Minister's Office, during the tenure of P.V.Narasimha Rao.
After being rebuffed by Prime Minister, Jaswant Singh has written another letter to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha saying that he is willing to make a statement in the Upper House on the issue if required on the mole controversy. In a second letter to the PM Jaswant has said that he has conveyed all that he had on the issue.
Dr. Singh has also asked Jaswant Singh to disclose in public domain if he had any further information on this issue.
In his just published memoirs "A Call to Honour: In Service of an Emergent India", Jaswant Singh has alleged that a mole in the PMO during the time of late prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao had leaked nuclear secrets to the US.
The PM pointed out that the letter was not original and it was unsigned. It was not written on a letterhead and also did not disclose any information.
So with the recent developments, the million dollar question now is that, does Jaswant really know anything about the mole backed with some concrete evidence or was it just speculation or worse still just a facade to sell his book?
Meanwhile following Jaswant's declaration there was an uproar in the Rajya Sabha as politicians were trying to score political points over the whole controversy on the presence of a 'mole' in the PMO during P V Narasimha Rao regime.
What do you think about this whole issue of Mole in PMO? .
