The Mole controversy seems never ending with new twists emerging each passing day. On Tuesday Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh found himself at the receiving end in the Rajya Sabha with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to name the 'mole' in the PMO.
In the midst of heated exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches, Jaswant Singh said he was trying to establish the centrality of the US efforts to "control, curb and put in tight wrap India's nuclear programme".
On PMO's observation that the information provided by him was not on a letterhead and did not bear any signature, Jaswant Singh said that information of this nature cannot be on a letterhead and therefore the question of letterhead and signature raised by the PMO was surprising.
The BJP leader said when Manmohan Singh was Finance Minister in Rao's cabinet, he was opposed to the nuclear test by India on the ground of economic consequences. To this, the Prime Minister asked what was the relevance of what he was saying.
Whatever the outcome of the mole controversy, one thing is clear that battle lines have been drawn over this issue and politicians are now busy scoring political points rather than show any desire to uncover the hidden truths.
