Unpredictable Weather Thanks To Global Warming?

By Network on August 02,2006

The world is facing dramatic changes in global weather scenario for the last couple of years. The effects are also visible in India as Gujarat which is otherwise a drought-prone state is actually battling floods this season, while the northeast which is usually battered by heavy rainfalls is facing a drought like crisis.

Compared to the mean average monsoon rains, Assam has received about 30 percent less rainfall this year. So are these changes just bad luck or have we harmed the Earth so badly that we are now facing the consequences?

According to scientists, there has been an obvious change in the Earth's overall average global temperature. Warm water from the equator is moving up past North America and Europe, regulating air temperatures and giving us a warm climate. Scientists say this is what caused nearly all the ice ages of the last 720,000 years.

An abrupt climate change scenario could potentially destabilize the geopolitical environment, leading to skirmishes, battles and even war due to food shortages, decreased availability and quality of fresh water and disrupted access to energy supplies but the good news is that scientists say there is still time to act, provided we act now.

We all live on this planet together and if we don't attempt to make changes very soon we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
