Mobile Bombs: The Latest Terror Weapon

By Network on July 29,2006

Its been a long time since this cat and mouse game between the militants and the intelligence forces. Militants are everyday trying to find new ways to spread their terror while security agencies are trying to counter it. First it was Coconut bombs to be used in temples and other places of worship, then came the pen bomb, suicide attacks and now the latest weapon being developed is the Mobile Phone bombs.

According to intelligence sources terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir have now started making mobile bombs to attack selected sophisticated targets. This disclosure has been reportedly made by a 16-year-old Lashkar-e-toiba (LeT) militant Noor Illahi alias Tipu during interrogation. He said that militants are collecting BSNL and Airtel Sim cards not only for communication network, but to use them as mobile bombs.

Tipu, who has received training to make such bombs revealed that many mobile bombs are already in the possession of LeT militants. A high quality one kg explosive, generally RDX mixed with TNT, is tied with an activated mobile handset and the set is kept in vibration mode, matching the frequency of the mobile set with the explosive device, he informed.

Two police constables and three army personnel have been taken into custody for their Lashkar links based on tipu's statement for providing logistic and other support to the militants across the valley.
