Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has hinted that the recent killing of non-Assamese migrant laborers in Assam has been carried out by ULFA on the instructions of Pakistan's ISI.
"There is no doubt that the ULFA is working on the instructions of the ISI," he told reporters in Tinsukia after visiting violence-hit areas of upper Assam.
Earlier intelligence reports by the Assam police had revealed the criminal nexus between ISI and ULFA as many ULFA cadres were acquired training in explosives in Pakistan under foreign experts.
According to intelligence sources, the ULFA cadres travel to Pakistan via Bangladesh from where they return using the same route after training.
There have been reports that Nepal Maoists were also providing arms and training facilities to Indian insurgent groups including ULFA. Findings of various security forces also shows that the KLO and the ULFA were receiving training from the Maoists in eastern Nepal, and that the militants are trying to regroup and reassert their pressure.
The government has meanwhile decided to send additional paramilitary forces comprising of 1,000 personnel to Assam. This is in addition to the 20 companies already sent to the state to fight the ULFA and protect Hindi-speaking people, particularly migrant workers from North India.
