Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's problems seem to multiply each passing day with a serious question mark over his intensions to move Pakistan into a democratic set up. Amid reports of massive rigging during local elections held under Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's charismatic Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has announced that he would not participate in any elections held under the regime of President Pervez Musharraf and has urged the rest of the opposition to do the same.
Speaking at a news conference in Hyderabad, Imran Khan who is a member of the National Assembly from Mianwali said that since Musharraf had been offering 'concessions' to coalition partners of the government, this political set-up is detrimental to people's interest.
He said the opposition should remain united for a movement against the military government and the no-confidence move against the prime minister was the first step towards the removal of this regime.
Musharraf is fast facing the heat even with the International community as the 53-nation Commonwealth had issued a statement condemning Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf's role as leader of the Pakistan army. Pakistan was suspended from the club of mainly former British colonies in 1999 when Gen Musharraf grabbed power in a military coup, and he has reneged on a pledge to give up his military role in 2005.
