Delhi Cabinet today decided to increase the age of retirement of teachers in its schools from 60 to 62 years. Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the move will help in meeting the shortage of teachers in Delhi government schools.

"We would have been able to meet the shortage of teachers in two years' time. This decision will help in bridging the demand-supply gap faster," he said.

"The government has decided to increase the retirement age of teachers from 60 to 62 years so that we can utilise the experience of senior teachers," he said.

Lovely said the Cabinet decision, which has come on the eve of Teachers' Day, will benefit 40,000 teachers.
