In one of the recent success stories, Juhi Singh, a 31-year-old yoga expert from Mumbai has built a thriving business helping stressed people get a good night’s sleep. She's not prescribing sleeping pills or magic beds but has adopted a holistic “mind, body and spirit” approach that emphasizes learning to truly rest.

“We live in a world where we are inundated with stress and people have tremendous problems falling asleep and staying relaxed. I focus on the natural, time-tested ways to combat the problem,” said Singh, who encourages clients to clear their head by using techniques borrowed from yoga.

Singh, who is currently practicing this technique in New York, is getting very popular with corporate America as she has devised her own programme of therapeutic yoga, where acupuncture points and meridians are correlated with specific yoga asanas.

Adults need an average of eight hours of sleep everyday. Any condition that causes disturbances in the sleep pattern could lead to a sleep disorders.

One of the most common form of sleep disorders, sleep apnea for that matter, could go ignored as excessive snoring.

Sleep apnea is caused by upper airway obstruction during sleep. The throat muscles relax to such an extent that they obstruct the wind pipe, making breathing difficult and depriving the body of adequate oxygen.

The common symptoms include heavy snoring, drowsiness during the day, headaches on waking up, mood changes and depression.

Sleep deprivation is cumulative, so each hour of sleep lost will count some day. Make sure you get your 'quota' of sleep everyday before it paves way for serious problems.
