Jessica Case: Hostile Witnesses Face The Heat

By Network on December 20,2006

In a significant development in the Jessica Lal murder case, the Delhi high court has directed the Delhi police to take action against all the 29 witnesses who turned hostile.

The verdict in the case was given on the basis of socialite Bina Ramani's testimony the high court awarded life imprisonment to Manu Sharma for murdering model Jessica Lal in a Delhi restaurant on the night of April 29-30, 1999.

While passing the direction, the bench observed that these witnesses had "vitiated the administration of justice by not supporting the case".

Taking action against the hostile witnesses is becoming a routine of sorts and its high time that our law makers focus strongly on a strong witness protection program which would help speed up the whole process as well.
