The Special Investigation Team, set up to probe loopholes in
the investigations that led to the acquittal of Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lall
murder case, submitted its report on Monday (9th October).
The Delhi High Court has allowed SIT to take action against
those responsible for the lapses in the investigation. The SIT’s report will be
taken up once the SIT’s appeal against the acquittal is over. The matter will
come up for hearing on 4th December.
In the SIT’s confidential report to the High Court, a copy
of which is available with TIMES NOW, the SIT mentions that evidence had been
tampered with including misplacing of cartridges to help the accused. The
report blames senior Delhi Police officials, including the then Joint
Commissioner of Police Amodh Kanth, additional DCP Vivek Gogia and
investigating officers Surinder Sharma and Sunil Kumar for lapses in the
investigation.
The report further says that Bina Ramani had been arrested
for forging documents and tampering with evidence. It also questions Shayan
Munshi's role, pointing out that he had lied to the court. The SIT report
apart, a sting operation had clearly exposed witnesses like Shayan Munshi,
whose turning hostile had affected the outcome of the first trial.
For Jessica Lall's sister, Sabrina Lall, the justice she has
single handedly struggled for, is not a dream anymore. Each court hearing is
one step closer to bringing Jessica's murderers to dock.
