RTI Gives Hope To Accident Victim's Family

After running for justice for years, the family of an accident victim is finally hoping that the Right to Information Act will act as a healing touch in their lives. Twenty-three year Ajay Kawshik who lost his father in a road accident by a public transportation bus in Coimbatore has filed an RTI application to get the compensation money after being delayed for over three years now.

The city court in Coimbatore had announced in its verdict a year-ago that the transport corporation must pay Rs 3,47,000 as compensation to the aggrieved family within a period of three-months. However, it’s been three-years now since the accident took place and despite repeated attempts, Ajay and his family have not been able to get the compensation money.

Ajay who read the RTI Act on the Internet, even downloaded a format of how to file the application. He hopes that the tough questions he has asked in his information request will force the transport officials to finally pay up.

All over the country, everyday people are increasingly using RTI to get ration cards, passports, even water connections without paying any bribes
