Incessant monsoon rains have triggered fresh floods across western India, halting rail and road traffic in Gujarat and parts of Mumbai stranding tens of thousands of people. Weather bureau has predicted more rainfall with the possibility of few heavy showers during the next couple of days.
Mumbai continues to grapple with water logging in many areas. Rail and road traffic were halted in many parts of Mumbai after train tracks and roads were submerged by waist-deep water .The Mumbai-Pune highway has now been closed after fear of landslides. There's extensive flooding and water logging in several areas of Marathwada and Vidharba regions as well.
Meanwhile the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh continues to remain grim with the death toll rising to 66. Most affected districts are Khammam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Warrangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad.
In Gujarat, district authorities have asked people staying in villages, located on the banks of river Narmada in Bharuch and Vadodara districts, to move to safer places following overflow of water from the Sardar Sarovar dam across the river.
