President Insists On Need To Change Secondary School Syllabus

President A P J Abdul Kalam said on Wednesday that the secondary education syllabus should change so that young students acquire vocational skills in classes 11 and 12.

"When you go out of school, you must undergo skill training. You should carry the 10 plus 2 certificate and the skill diploma," he told about 3,000 students at an interaction with them at the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences here.

The students must carve out 25 per cent of their time for skill training while doing their secondary education as it would help them in the employment market, he said.

"Nothing is impossible in this world," Kalam told the students adding "if someone tells you something is impossible, don't go near him."

The President quoted Lord Kelvin, a famous scientist who had said in 1895 that any thing heavier than air can fly, and cannot be flown. Within a decade of it, the Wright brothers proved man could fly, of course at heavy risk and cost.
