By Network on September 13,2006

Five days after serial blasts rocked Malegaon town in Nashik district another bomb was found near the Mohammedia Madrasa Centre even as the town remains on high alert.

A National Security Guard (NSG) bomb squad was summoned to examine the bomb found in a yellow container. Police immediately cordoned off the area and kept people away.

At least 37 people were killed and 56 were seriously injured on Sept 8 when three bombs concealed on cycles went off near a mosque in Maharashtra’s Malegaon town when people were coming out after Friday afternoon prayers.

Malegaon which has 75 % Muslim population has suffered religious violence in the past. In May, police recovered a cache of explosives and automatic rifles from the region based on information they said was provided by arrested Islamist militants.
