Five days after serial blasts rocked Malegaon town in Nashik district another bomb was found near the Mohammedia Madrasa Centre even as the town remains on high alert.
A National Security Guard (NSG) bomb squad was summoned to examine the bomb found in a yellow container. Police immediately cordoned off the area and kept people away.
At least 37 people were killed and 56 were seriously injured on Sept 8 when three bombs concealed on cycles went off near a mosque in Maharashtra’s Malegaon town when people were coming out after Friday afternoon prayers.
Malegaon which has 75 % Muslim population has suffered religious violence in the past. In May, police recovered a cache of explosives and automatic rifles from the region based on information they said was provided by arrested Islamist militants.
