The 92-year-old shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan has been admitted to a private Hospital in his home town of Varanasi this morning after he complained of weakness and other age-related health problems.

The District Magistrate of Varanasi had given instructions to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Varanasi, Dr A P Singh about not taking chances in any case about Khan’s treatment.

Meanwhile the Central as well as the State Government is regularly instructing the administrative officers of Varanasi about taking intense care of Khan.

Born on March 21, 1916, Khan is a recipient of numerous awards and comes from a family of professional shehnai players of the erstwhile princely state of Dumrao in Bihar. The maestro, who had financial problems, had been given monetary help by the previous NDA government as also the ruling UPA alliance at the Centre.
